Janka Ochojska

In the year 2000 a book with a beautiful title “Niebo to inni” (“Heaven is other people”) appeared in Polish bookshops. On the cover you can see a picture of a serene woman looking out through a window of a wooden cottage. More pictures can be found inside – they show a smiling girl in a sanatorium, the same girl during trips, a happy woman working, driving a car, getting married... Those are the photographs of Janka Ochojska, usually surrounded by a group of people, friends and acquaintances.

Not "Janina" but "Janka" – that is how she is addressed by all employees of the Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH), volunteers, and people who met her at least once. Lack of respect? Hardly. The name "Janka" conveys much better the energy and strength that the head of PAH possesses and radiates. It is thanks to this strength that, despite her disability and much physical suffering, Janka became an authority in the field of humanitarian aid in Poland.
