The project encompasses providing access to water and sanitation for the most deprived people in the Galgaduud region of Somalia. As part of the project, 940 families in rural areas, in particular internally displaced persons, will receive support.

Galmuduug is one of the regions in Somalia that have been hit hardest by the drought. The lack of access to water significantly increased the incidence of diseases among both the population and livestock. Inhabitants of this region suffer from diseases such as cholera and severe diarrhoea, and insufficient access to water and sanitary infrastructure further exacerbates the situation. Among the most severely affected are internally displaced people who live in overcrowded places.

Inhabitants of a drought-stricken area in the Adado district will gain temporary access to an emergency water supply in the form of tankers. In this way, 940 families in hard-to-reach villages will receive help. In addition, a well will be drilled in the village of Habasley, and the water infrastructure will be rebuilt in the villages of Wad-gilinsorm, Dhagah-dheer and Hero-loÔÇÖad. In effect, residents will have constant access to potable water. The wells will be situated in places that have been drought-stricken for years.

Furthermore, sanitary facilities will be installed in locations inhabited by internally displaced people ÔÇô 76 latrines and additional 14 latrines specially adapted to the needs of people with disabilities. The sanitary infrastructure installed by PAH will also be adapted to the cultural requirements and will guarantee safety for the users.

Moreover, trainings on hygiene promotion will be organized for 20 people from the local community and 500 families will receive hygiene packages. In addition, water and sanitary committees will be trained, and water quality will be constantly monitored.

The indirect goal of these measures is to counteract the displacement of people due to droughts.

As a result of these activities, more than 36,800 people will receive aid, including internally displaced persons and villagers from the Adado district.
