HELP IN UKRAINE

As part of our regular activities in Ukraine, we provide ongoing support for war victims remaining in the country. We regularly organize transports with material assistance for internally displaced persons and those who could not leave their homes. We deliver food and hygiene products, provide psychological and financial support and renovate private houses and institutions. In winter we helped residents by providing fuel, stoves, generators and thermal blankets.

WINTER HELP

  • Distribution of thermal blankets, stoves, fuel and coal in Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions, including distribution of special packages with heaters and blankets carried out in cooperation with ECHO.
  • Distribution of solid fuel for heating buildings in the Dnipropetrovska oblast. Action carried out in cooperation with Action Aid. 
  • Purchase and distribution of generators in the Kyivska and Dnipropetrovska oblasts. The generators went to centres for internally displaced persons and to the local community. Action carried out in cooperation with BHA. 
  • Distribution of financial aid in preparation for winter among the population most affected by the crisis in Ukraine’s eastern regions.

PSYCHOSOCIAL ASSISTANCE

PSYCHOSOCIAL ASSISTANCE

  • We provide psychological support to people affected by the armed conflict, including women, men and children, in Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, and Mykolaiv Oblasts, through individual and group sessions, open events on psycho-educational topics, awareness-raising activities on mental health, violence and healthy living. Activity carried out in cooperation with BHA, ECHO, UHF and Stichting Vluchteling. 
  • Our social workers provide basic life necessities (water, medicines, food, hygienic supplies) and home care to the elderly, chronically ill or disabled.
  • We run five psychosocial assistance centers in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, three centers in Kyiv Oblast, and further centers in Kharkiv and Mykolaiv Oblasts. We are launching a total of 17 such centers. The centers provide basic psychological, social and formal aid. Those in need can also receive in-kind support and register for financial assistance.
  • We provide support in the field of legal aid in psychosocial assistance centers in cooperation with UHF and BHA.
  • We conduct trainings for employees of social institutions in the Dnipropetrovska oblast.

SHELTER AND NON-FOOD ASSISTANCE

SHELTER AND NON-FOOD ASSISTANCE

  • We distribute packages with non-food items and materials needed for the renovation of shelters, including: for 1,200 people from the Kyivska oblast (in cooperation with BHA), for 350 families (in cooperation with UHF), for 690 families (in cooperation with ECHO).
  • Additionally, 350 families will receive support in the field of safe shelter and 14 most vulnerable will be provided with basic solutions, including: renovation, necessary equipment and building materials (in cooperation with UHF).
  • In cooperation with Stichting Vluchteling, ECHO, and UNHCR, we erected 100 container or modular houses, and launched a house renovation program in Kyiv Oblast for people whose accommodation was destroyed in warfare, Ukraine’s internally displaced population, and others in need.
  • In partnership with Action Aid, we put up modular homes for families in Kyiv and Chernihiv Oblasts, and renovate damaged houses. In addition, we provide necessary interior furnishings and accessories.

  • We distribute hygiene kits for internally displaced people, the elderly, people with disabilities and for the youngest. The packages are varied in terms of content and size, but they usually include, among others, soap, toothbrushes, towels, paper, cleaning products, hygiene products for children. More information on where we deliver hygiene packages is available below in the “transports” tab.
  • We also distribute hygiene kits for social institutions, e.g. nursing and retirement homes. The packages contain items such as diapers, cleaning and disinfecting agents, washing powders, etc.
  • We carried out programs to renovate and repair water and sanitation infrastructure, including toilets, showers and drains in social institutions, territorial assistance centers or temporary shelters for internally displaced persons. Repairs were carried out in Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions in cooperation with UHF, BHA and ECHO.

FOOD

FOOD

  • Regular distribution of food parcels to the most deprived, internally displaced persons, children, the elderly, mothers, pregnant women and others. More information on where exactly we deliver food parcels is available below in the “transports” tab.
  • We collaborate with the UN World Food Program in Zaporizhzhia and Mykolaiv Oblasts in the supply of nutritionally balanced food packages. Our aid is expected to reach a total of 633,000 people.
  • We send food parcels financed with our own funds to Kyiv, Lviv, Zaporizhia and Dnipropetrovska oblasts.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT

  • In the Lviv region, we conducted a pilot program of financial support for internally displaced persons. A total of 850 people from such places as Zhovkva, Duliany, Voloshino, Truskavets and Morshyn received support. Activity funded by Stichting Vluchteling.
  • We conducted a financial assistance program in the Kyiv, Kharkiv and Donetsk regions. 2273 people received assistance. Activity carried out in cooperation with Stichting Vluchteling.
  • We provide financial aid to people staying at the refugee transition center in Sumy.

  • Evacuation of the population from the Donetsk and Kharkiv oblasts in cooperation with U-Saved by providing logistical support, fuel supplies and food.

⚠️ DNIEPER’S DISASTER IN UKRAINE ⚠️

As a result of the dam destruction in the Dnieper River, massive and tragic floods hit the Kherson Oblast. In total, 80 locations were partly or completely flooded, and many private houses, institutions, and infrastructure facilities were damaged. It is estimated that 16 000 people were forced to flee and search for shelter in Mykolaiv, Dnipro, Kyiv, and Odesa. The flood is also very likely to cause river contamination. It also poses a threat due to carrying mines.

Our emergency response team in Ukraine reached the place of the catastrophe as soon as possible to assess the most urgent needs. We help the people affected by the flood in Kherson Oblast. As part of our activities:

  • We supply drinking water in the villages of Antonivka and Sadove, and provide long-term solutions including water purification filters and installation of dedicated water pumping equipment.
  • We distribute non-food parcels with cleaning supplies, mattresses, antiseptic products, and other household items as well as building materials. The parcels are distributed in Kherson and Mykolaiv Oblasts.
  • We implemented a financial support program targeted at people affected by disaster. The program was carried out in Kherson and Mykolaiv Oblasts.
  • Our plans also include the distribution of hygiene parcels in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.

To the warehouse in Lviv we delivered:

  • 9,978 ready-to-eat packets covering weekly demand of one adult
  • 49500 adult food kits covering the needs of one person, some of which will be sent to the Dnieper (our local partner, Love and Kindness, supports us in distribution)
  • 1800 food packages covering the needs of one person for one month

Kyiv oblast

From Lviv to Kyiv and Kyiv oblast we have delivered: 

  • 1551 food sets, each covering a weekly demand of an adult 
  • 756 hygiene kits, each covering a monthly demand of a family (adults and children) 
  • 1000 food sets for children from 4 to 8 months, each covering a weekly demand 
  • 1600 food sets for children above 8 months, each covering a weekly demand
  • 1065 hygiene kits covering monthly needs of one family
  • 1125 ready-to-cook food sets (each set is an 18 kg package covering monthly needs of one family) – action carried out in cooperation with the WFP
  • 55 hygiene kits for 8 institutions, including orphanages, schools and special health camps for children (in cooperation with BHA)

Zaporizhia oblast

From Lviv to Zaporizhia for internally displaced persons we have delivered: 

  • 432 food sets, each covering a weekly demand of an adult 
  • 307 hygiene kit, each covering a monthly demand of a family (adults and children) 
  • 820 food sets for children from 4 to 8 month, each covering a weekly demand 
  • 1265 food sets for children over 8 months, each covering a weekly demand 

To Zaporizhia we have also delivered: 

  • 100 hygiene kits for residents of retirement home (1 kit covers a monthly demand of 20 persons) 
  • 2660 hygiene kits and 3806 diapers for children 
  • 2034 hygiene kits for adults – action carried out in cooperation with GOAL
  • 2046 ready-to-cook sets (each set is an 18 kg package covering monthly or weekly needs of one family) – action carried out in cooperation with the WFP

As part of cooperation with Chorus, we delivered to Zaporizhia:

  • 2320 hygiene kits for children
  • 8700 hygiene kits for adults
  • 324 boxes of soap
  • 5 boxes of protective masks
  • 7000 quilts (an additional 1000 quilts were delivered to Lviv)

  • 63 pallets of hygiene kits for 200 families – action carried out under the BHA’s project 
  • 2000 hygiene kits for children and infants 
  • 1205 hygiene kits for children and infants (different products) 
  • 1205 diapers for children 
  • 655 diapers for adults

From Lyiv to Kramatorsk we have delivered:

  • 6691 packs of diapers for adults (private part, institutional part)

  • 60,000 bottles of water with a capacity of 1.5 l and 14,800 bottles of water with a capacity of 5 l or 6 l – this transport will be distributed in Kharkiv, Kyiv and Dnipro

We delivered to Dnipro:

  • 4,224 hygiene kits covering monthly needs of one family
  • 2,112 hygiene kits covering monthly needs of one family (our distribution is supported by our local partner – Light of Culture)

To Kryvyi Rih we delivered:

  • 3,497 ready-to-cook food packages (each set is an 18 kg package covering the needs of a family for a month or a week) – action carried out in cooperation with WFP

To five towns in the Dnipropetrovska oblast we have delivered:

  • 5,400 food packages, each package covering the needs of one adult per month

  • 2822 packs of ready-to-cook food (each pack is an 18 kg parcel which satisfies nutritional needs of a family for one month or one week) – this activity is carried out in co-operation with WFP.

CROSS-BORDER TRANSPORTS

Since the second half of April, we have been delivering food packages to internally displaced persons, currently located in Vyshniv, Kotsiury and other towns in the Volyn oblast, near the Polish border. We reach people forced to flee from Kyiv and eastern Ukraine, as well as from other parts of the country. Each distributed package covers the needs of one person for a month.

Transports take place once a month. So far we have delivered packages for 1000 people. In addition, as part of the last distribution in December, we also delivered 140 hygiene kits for families (thanks to cooperation with Oriflame).

COUNTRY OFFICE IN POLAND

Polish Humanitarian Action in May 2022 launched a new organizational structure “Poland Country Office” to effectively respond to the refugee crisis in our country. The main goal is to help people who are fleeing to Poland from the ongoing war in Ukraine. You can read more about it here.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

In March 2022, we launched the Aid Card programme which will help the refugees in Poland to buy the products they need most. The programme’s aim was to provide such aid to 25 000 individuals. As at the end of September 2022, aid has been provided to more than 11 351 families, or 26 834 individuals.

This programme will be carried out in five cities: Przemyśl, Koszalin, Olsztyn, Bartoszyce, and Stargard in co-operation with the Ukrainian Association in Poland.

In April 2023, the program was relaunched. The current edition of the program will cover about 6,500 people. Detailed and up-to-date information on the conditions for participation in the program is available here.

Cooperation with the Mudita Association

  • We finance the operation of two reception points in Warsaw and Krakow, adapted to the needs of people with disabilities and chronic diseases. These are places of temporary residence primarily for refugees who have just arrived in Poland.
  • In the night shelter, families receive support in the form of food, volunteer care, as well as help in finding a doctor or obtaining a PESEL (Polish resident identification) number. In addition to accommodation, in each shelter there are two rehabilitation beds, toilets and bathrooms adapted for people in wheelchairs, a playroom for children and a lounge.
  • In addition, the Association’s charges participated in our aid card program. This aid consisted in issuing cards with funds sufficing to support a family for 3 months.
  • As part of the cooperation, we launched a new activity, the so-called respite volunteering. This is voluntary support for families outside the center where assistants arrange to spend time with a child or a disabled person, thus giving other family members time to rest, run errands or care for themselves. Volunteers work in Warsaw and Krakow, on average a few hours a week. 20 families receive respite support.

Cooperation with the Emic Foundation

  • We launched information and advisory points in Toruń and Bydgoszcz. Here people receive support in the form of information on the Polish social security system, registration for the PESEL number, etc., but also assistance in translating documents or finding employment and psychological support. We also finance Polish language lessons on various levels of advancement.

We co-create a system of coordination of activities implemented by Polish and international non-governmental organizations and local authorities with the aim of helping people from Ukraine.

The system supports mutual exchange of knowledge, information sharing and coordination of all undertaken activities.

“PAJACYK” PROGRAMME

“PAJACYK” PROGRAMME

We are expending the nutritional support programme, which allows us to provide hot meals to children from Ukraine who go to schools supported by our Pajacyk programme, as well as day care centres, community centres, and socio-therapeutic centres during summer vacations.  

As part of the new version of the “Puppet – Psychosocial Assistance” program (Pajacyk – Pol.), we provide psychological and psychiatric support for children in the refugee crisis, increase the knowledge of teachers, guardians and other school staff about refugees, and support parents and guardians. A total of 39 organizations from all over Poland participate in the program. The programme was implemented between September 2022 and August 2023.

Currently in the new edition for the years 2023/2024 we are cooperating with 27 organisations from all over Poland. The programme aims to help all children in need, regardless of their nationality.

We constantly create information content in the form of webinars, materials for schools or podcasts on humanitarian aid, the refugee crisis and the situation in Ukraine.

Actions:

  • Lessons on helping – we run an educational program for schools on responsible humanitarian aid.
  • “Tolerance is Not Enough” podcast – we talk with people involved in the organization of humanitarian aid for refugees from Ukraine. Link to the podcast: https://www.pah.org.pl/podkast/
  • Trainings for teachers – we run a series of trainings for teachers on practical skills in shaping the attitude of global solidarity.
  • Cooperation with educational activists – we expand the networks of educators, their knowledge on humanitarian aid and the global context of the war in Ukraine.

COUNTRY OFFICE IN POLAND

Polish Humanitarian Action in May 2022 launched a new organizational structure “Poland Country Office” to effectively respond to the refugee crisis in our country. The main goal is to help people who are fleeing to Poland from the ongoing war in Ukraine. You can read more about it here.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

In March 2022, we launched the Aid Card programme which will help the refugees in Poland to buy the products they need most. The programme’s aim was to provide such aid to 25 000 individuals. As at the end of September 2022, aid has been provided to more than 11 351 families, or 26 834 individuals.

This programme will be carried out in five cities: Przemyśl, Koszalin, Olsztyn, Bartoszyce, and Stargard in co-operation with the Ukrainian Association in Poland.

In April 2023, the program was relaunched. The current edition of the program will cover about 6,500 people. Detailed and up-to-date information on the conditions for participation in the program is available here. 

COOPERATION WITH LOCAL NGOs

Cooperation with the Mudita Association

  • We finance the operation of two reception points in Warsaw and Krakow, adapted to the needs of people with disabilities and chronic diseases. These are places of temporary residence primarily for refugees who have just arrived in Poland.

  • from March 2022, for several consecutive months, we ran immediate assistance points at border crossings in Zosin (until May 2022), Dorohusk (until July 2022) and Hrebenne (until August 2022)
  • at the points, we distributed essential products to people arriving in Poland – food, water, sanitary items, medicines and warm blankets
  • our interpreters provided information and facilitated communication and directed to reception points
  • we provided tents to protect from the wind and provide a place to rest and eat a meal
  • in addition, our volunteers from Dorohusk regularly delivered essential products to persons arriving by train on the Kyiv-Warsaw route

We are constantly monitoring the situation on the Polish-Ukrainian border and we are prepared to resume operations, if necessary.

  • We provide interpreters at the railway station in Przemyśl

Polish Humanitarian Action

We help victims of humanitarian crises caused by armed conflicts and natural disasters.
We are a Polish non-governmental organization operating since 1992. Since 2004, we are also a public benefit organization. We operate on three continents, including in Poland.
