Aid in Ukraine

CONVOYS

We organize regular aid transports to Ukraine for internally displaced persons and individuals who have not been able to leave their homes. We provide food and hygiene products as well as household chemicals for adults and children, taking into account the needs of the elderly, people with disabilities and infants.

Some of the activities are carried out in cooperation with our international partners, and the distribution is supported by local Ukrainian organizations.

LVIV

To the warehouse in Lviv we delivered:

  • 9,978 ready-to-eat packets covering weekly demand of one adult
  • 49,500 adult food kits covering the needs of one person, some of which will be sent to the Dnieper (our local partner, Love and Kindness, supports us in distribution)

In the Lviv Oblast, we have implemented a financial aid programme for IDPs; in total, 850 people from, among others, the towns of Zhovkva, Dubliany, Voloshynovo, Truskavets, and Morshyn received support. This activity was financed by Stichting Vluchteling.

From Lviv to Kyiv and Kyiv oblast we have delivered: 

  • 1551 food sets, each covering a weekly demand of an adult 
  • 756 hygiene kits, each covering a monthly demand of a family (adults and children) 
  • 1000 food sets for children from 4 to 8 months, each covering a weekly demand 
  • 1600 food sets for children above 8 months, each covering a weekly demand

Local distribution partners of PAH: Tovaristvo Leva, Ukrainian Red Cross. 

We have started a new pilot program under which we are rebuilding and rehabilitating houses. We carry out the action with the local organization Love and Kindness, thanks to the financial support of Stichting Vluchteling.

From Lviv to Zaporizhia for internally displaced persons we have delivered: 

  • 432 food sets, each covering a weekly demand of an adult 
  • 307 hygiene kit, each covering a monthly demand of a family (adults and children) 
  • 820 food sets for children from 4 to 8 month, each covering a weekly demand 
  • 1265 food sets for children over 8 months, each covering a weekly demand 

To Zaporizhia we have also delivered: 

  • 100 hygiene kits for residents of retirement home (1 kit covers a monthly demand of 20 persons) 
  • 2660 hygiene kits and 3806 diapers for children 
  • 2034 hygiene kits for adults – action carried out in cooperation with GOAL

DONETSK OBLAST

DONETSK OBLAST

From Lviv to Kramatorsk and the Donetsk oblast: 

  • 63 pallets of hygiene kits for 200 families – action carried out under the BHA’s project 
  • 2000 hygiene kits for children and infants 
  • 1205 hygiene kits for children and infants (different products) 
  • 1205 diapers for children 
  • 655 diapers for adults

From Lyiv to Kramatorsk we have delivered:

  • 6691 packs of diapers for adults (private part, institutional part)
  • 50 sets of household chemicals and hygiene products for institutions

From Chernivtsi to different locations in the Donetsk oblast we have delivered hygiene products and household chemicals – action carried out under the OCHA Ukrainian Humanitarian Fund’s project: 

  • 1420 sets to Svitlodarsk 
  • 680 sets to Toretsk 
  • 100 sets to Novolugansk 
  • 50 sets to Druzhba

  • 12 palettes of antiseptic agents or gels,
  • 606 pallets (20,000) of hygiene kits for families ensuring needs of one family per month

CROSS-BORDER TRANSPORT

Since the second part of April, we have been delivering food packages to the internally displaced persons, currently living in Wiszniów, Kocury and other locations in Volyn oblast. We are reaching over 600 people that were forced to flee Kiev and eastern Ukraine, as well as other parts of the country. Each package contains 1-month food supplies.

PSYCHOSOCIAL ASSISTANCE IN DONETSK AND LUHANSK

  • Our social workers provide basic necessities (water, medicines, food and hygiene products) to the elderly, the sick and the disabled.
  • We provide psychological assistance via the Internet and telephone.

PLANNED ACTIONS:

  • Financial support – distribution of food vouchers among the most deprived people,
  • Psychological assistance – individual consultations and psychological first aid for people remaining in centres for internally displaced persons (including children and the elderly),
  • Support for centres for internally displaced persons in Ukraine, including social and medical institutions, by providing hygiene products, blankets, mattresses, fuel, power generators as well as carrying out repair works on the water and sanitary infrastructure,
  • Distribution of ready-to-eat food packages covering weekly needs (15,200 units), monthly food kits (18,300 units) and hygiene kits (8,000 units) for people in western, central and eastern Ukraine.

Aid at the border

AID POINTS AT THE BORDER CROSSINGS IN HREBENNEM AND DOROHUSK

  • We distribute the necessary products to people coming to Poland – food, water, hygiene products, medicines, warm blankets.
  • Our interpreters provide information, facilitate communication and direct people to reception points.
  • We ensure wind-protected tents, places to rest and eat a meal.
  • Until May we were also present at the border crossing in Zosin.
  • Our volunteers from Dorohusk regularly provide the necessary products to people arriving by train from Kyiv to Warsaw.

SUPPORT FOR RECEPTION OFFICES AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS

  • On the Polish side (including Dorohusk, Chełm, Lubycza Królewska, Tomaszów Lubelski, Ustrzyki Dolne) in the form of maintaining constant contact and organizing regular transports,
  • On the Ukrainian side at the crossings and areas beyond Dołhobyczów, Hrebenne and Budomierz through cooperation with local volunteers and residents.

AID COORDINATION SYSTEM

  • We co-create a system for coordinating the activities of Polish and international non-governmental organizations and local authorities.

INFORMATION SYSTEM FOR ARRIVING PEOPLE

  • In cooperation with other organizations operating on the Polish-Ukrainian border, we create an information system for arriving people.
  • We distribute leaflets and audio information in Ukrainian, Russian, English and Polish with the most important information, answers to frequently asked questions and contacts to institutions and other organizations.

ANTI-HUMAN TRAFFICKING ACTIONS

  • In cooperation with the La Strada Foundation, we take measures to reduce the risk related to the threat of human trafficking as a result of the war and the refugee crisis.
  • We support the Partner financially and technically, providing assistance in the field of large-scale project management.

WE SUPPORT THE ACTIVITIES OF THE “UKRAINIAN HOUSE” FOUNDATION IN PRZEMYŚL

  • We cooperate with the “Ukrainian House” Foundation in Przemyśl, which provides help to Ukrainian refugees in Poland.
  • We support the partner financially and technically and provide assistance in the field of large-scale project management.

  • Providing hand-washing stations and portable toilets near the border crossings on the Ukrainian side.

Aid in Poland

MISSION POLAND

On 20 May, PAH launched “Mission Poland” in order to effectively respond to the refugee crisis in Poland. You can read more about it here.

AID CARDS FOR PERSONS IN THE MOST DIRE SITUATION

We have launched the Aid Cards programme, which will allow 20,000 refugees in Poland to purchase the most needed products.

The action is carried out in cooperation with the “Ukrainian House” in Przemyśl.

“PAJACYK” PROGRAMME

We are expanding the current food support programme, which allows us to provide hot meals to children from Ukraine studying in schools where “Pajacyk” operates. We are also recruiting facilities (day support centers, community and socio-therapeutic centers) for the holiday period aimed at children that are at risk of exclusion due to their refugee status.

Planned actions:

As part of the new version of the “Pajacyk – Psychosocial Assistance” programme, we will provide psychological and psychiatric support to children affected by the refugee crisis, increase the knowledge of teachers, guardians and other school staff about refugees, and provide assistance to parents and guardians. Recruitment for the “Ukraine” edition for 2022 is already underway – we are looking forward to your applications.

EDUCATION

We create information content on an ongoing basis, for example in the form of webinars and podcasts on humanitarian aid, the refugee crisis and the situation in Ukraine.

Planned actions:

  • Trainings for teachers – we will prepare and conduct a series of trainings for teachers on the practical skills of introducing humanitarian topics to school activities and shaping the attitude of global solidarity.
  • Cooperation with educational activists – we will expand educators’ networks and broaden their knowledge about humanitarian aid and the global context of the war in Ukraine.
  • Cooperation with schools – we will implement an educational programme for schools on responsible humanitarian aid.

If you have an apartment in Poland that could be made available to refugees, please use the UASOS.org platform to register it. This way people looking for shelter will be able to easily find your offer of help. 

The UA SOS platform was established in March at the initiative of non-governmental organizations, with the support of several companies. Polish Humanitarian Action is its partner. The platform is available in Polish, English, Ukrainian and Russian.

Polish Humanitarian Action

We help victims of humanitarian crises caused by armed conflicts and natural disasters.

We are a Polish non-governmental organization operating since 1992. Since 2004, we are also a public benefit organization. We operate on three continents, including in Poland.
