The escalation of the war in Ukraine in February 2022 forced millions of people to leave their homes to save themselves and their loved ones. Millions of refugees have decided to come to Poland and other countries, many of whom have nowhere to return to \u2013 their homes have been destroyed, fields and roads contain mines, and both schools and hospitals are closed. In some parts of Ukraine, there is no electricity or running water, and the economic crisis is intensifying. As a result, hundreds of thousands of people who came to Poland after February 24, 2022, are likely to remain there for a long time period. Here they start life anew practically from scratch, often without any money, struggling with the challenges of adapting to the new environment. Their needs are substantial.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Since May 2022, we have been providing assistance to people from Ukraine in Poland. Our on-site activities also include long-term projects in the field of global education and the Pajacyk program, aimed at providing food and psychosocial support for children.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n

\n What is PAH doing? <\/div>\n

Currently, our aid spans a wide range of actions, including financial support, provision of psychological and social assistance, food support for children and young people in the refugee crisis, assistance with employment, integration, access to Polish language learning and education. We carry out these activities with partnered organizations. Until March 2025, we also supported – financially and substantively – Polish organizations in their relief efforts under the NGO Forum ”Razem”.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

During the most serious crisis on the Polish-Ukrainian border, we ran aid points in Zosin, Hrebenne and Dorohusk, providing the most important items to refugees crossing the border. We provided food and hot tea, blankets, water, hygiene products for adults and children, as well as support in translation, finding accommodation or transport. We also regularly supported internally displaced persons who stopped in the Volyn region, providing them with hygiene products and food.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to supporting refugees from Ukraine, we are involved in providing assistance at the Polish-Belarusian border. Since the beginning of the crisis, we have supported organizations delivering direct aid on the ground, including as members of the Grupa Zagranica network. From August 2022 to the end of 2024, we operated a warehouse in Bia\u0142ystok, where activists working at the border could collect necessary items for people crossing the border, such as clothing, sleeping bags, thermal underwear, food, and hygiene products. Starting in 2025, we have been supporting the warehouse\u2019s operations financially.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Since 1998, we have been running the Pajacyk program in Poland, under which we support the health and proper development of children and adolescents in Poland. Pajacyk finances warm meals in schools and day-care facilities, and since 2021 also mental health protection activities.
