\n A devastating conflict has been going on in Yemen since 2014. As a result, more than 21.6 million people, or \u2154 of the country's population, require humanitarian aid. We carry out activities there targeting especially the most vulnerable: children, the elderly and women. <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Since 2019, the Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH) has been actively involved in helping the people of Yemen, who have been affected by one of the world’s worst crises. The decade-long ongoing conflict exacerbates the problems of the population affected by the daily lack of access to basic resources such as food, water and medical care.<\/p>\n

When considering how to help Yemen, it is worth noticing the work of organizations that implement projects tailored to the urgent needs of local communities. The scope of PAH\u2019s activities includes water supply, medical support and education, which significantly improve the quality of life of the civilian population. Since 2014, Yemen has been steeped in a devastating armed conflict that has turned into one of the world’s worst humanitarian disasters. The takeover of the capital by armed Houthi groups and the overthrow of President Hadi’s government triggered a series of retaliatory acts, leading to an escalation of fighting and the involvement of international forces, including a coalition led by Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n

Key data on the current situation (2024):<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

    \n
  • 2 million people<\/strong> (more than 50% of the population) need humanitarian aid. The inhabitants are deprived of access to basic resources such as food, water and healthcare.<\/li>\n
  • 6 million people<\/strong> suffer from food insecurity, which means that access to food is very limited for a large part of the population.<\/li>\n
  • 5 million Yemenis<\/strong> are internally displaced people who have lost their homes due to the warfare that has destabilized communities and caused them to collapse.<\/li>\n
  • 80% of the population<\/strong> has limited access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation, which encourages outbreaks of infectious diseases such as cholera.<\/li>\n
  • More than 20 million people<\/strong> do not have access to primary health care, which leaves them vulnerable to illness, with no treatment options.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    In addition, because of the economic crisis and the high inflation rate, getting food and other basic products is a daily challenge for many families. The conflict has also destroyed a large part of the infrastructure, including hospitals and schools, which significantly degrades the quality of life of the Yemeni people and makes normal functioning impossible.<\/p>\n

    \n How does PAH help in Yemen? <\/div>\n

    The Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH) has actively helped the people of Yemen since 2019, tailoring its activities to meet their urgent needs, particularly in the area of health care, access to water and educational support. PAH currently focuses on supporting the Ma’rib area, where it has run a multi-sectoral assistance project since early 2024. The scope of this project covers five camps for internally displaced people and the nearby Al Saqet clinic.<\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    In order to improve health care, PAH supplies water, medicines, dressings, laboratory reagents and essential medical equipment to clinics. Thanks to PAH\u2019s support, the Al Saqet clinic, previously closed due to the war, has been equipped with personal protective equipment and sanitary materials and has been connected to a nearby water source, thus enabling full-scale operation. The organization also funds the salaries of medical staff and provides training for local midwives. For those who have limited access to the clinic due to disability, cultural circumstances or the dangers of travel, PAH has set up a local team of health volunteers and midwives who not only support patients, but also are ready to deliver babies in emergency situations.<\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    PAH also implements sanitation activities by repairing water and sewage systems, such as the water network in Aden. Due to the threat of a cholera epidemic, PAH modernizes water intake points in the camps as well as repairs electrical systems to reduce the risk of fires. In addition, camp residents receive essential shelter equipment, including blankets, mattresses and portable cookers. The organization also supports people who have lost their documents while fleeing their homes \u2013 it helps them obtain new ones in cooperation with the local population office.<\/p>\n

    In addition to emergency activities, PAH runs educational campaigns that raise awareness about hygiene and health among the local community, helping to prevent the spread of disease.
