South Sudan faces serious humanitarian challenges as a result of the ongoing civil war in neighbouring Sudan, including an influx of refugees and returnees, as well as cholera outbreaks, forced displacement and the effects of climate change. <\/strong><\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n

Since the beginning of the conflict, more than 768,000 people have crossed the border into South Sudan in Renk County, bringing the population of the area to around 82,500, many of whom have no access to safe shelter or basic services or products.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This crisis particularly affects the most vulnerable groups, overstretches existing infrastructure, and increases the risk of violations of the dignity or security of people in need. PAH’s assistance aims to alleviate these problems by addressing urgent needs and strengthening the resilience of this community to the crisis. The project provides support for refugees, returnees, internally displaced persons and local host communities.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Particular emphasis will be placed on vulnerable groups such as children under the age of five, pregnant and lactating women, people with disabilities or chronic diseases, and communities suffering from hunger or severe malnutrition. The project is based on a thorough assessment of needs and also assumes the active participation of the community in the planning process to involve them and ensure relevance.<\/p>\n

It also focuses on building and strengthening local community structures, which should ensure a sense of ownership and sustainability for the results of the activities.<\/p>\n

As part of co-financing from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland<\/span>, PAH will provide multi-sector support to 1,000 people affected by the crisis \u2013 refugees, returnees, internally displaced persons, and host communities in Rek and Manyo counties. The activities focus on promoting hygiene and providing hygiene kits, including menstrual hygiene products, taking into account the needs of women, girls and families affected by forced displacement and a shortage of basic services. The project will thus contribute to improving the health, safety, and quality of life of the population in Renk and Manyo, reduce the risk of infectious diseases and epidemics, and strengthen the community’s resilience to future crises.<\/p>\n
