2023/2024 – SOUTH SUDAN – WATER/IN-KIND RELIEF/EDUCATIONback

Climate changes, unstable political situation and internal conflicts keep forcing the people of South Sudan to leave their homes. The disastrous living conditions of thousands of displaced people may get even worse due to an influx of refugees from the neighbouring Sudan who add to the use of the potable water sources.

An estimated 7.76 million people, or 62.7% of South Sudan population, need food aid. A new IPC report (Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, a tool used for integrated food security classification) warns that the already common excess of alarming levels of undernutrition will have tragic consequences.

The PAH project is implemented to provide safe water sources to undernourished people in Canal Pigi in Jonglei State. Together with its partners, PAH takes efforts to improve access to safe water and sanitary infrastructure in feeding points.

We set up and modernise damaged latrines, wells, and water supply points while improving access to safe water for household needs and for personal hygiene. We also carry out campaigns on proper hygiene and nutrition, and on responding to sexual and gender-based violence. We provide the residents with essentials that enable proper water treatment and storage. We also distribute hygiene kits, soap and menstrual hygiene kits for women and girls.

31,000 people will get aid as part of our efforts.

Project duration: 3rd July 2023 – 2nd June 2024
Location: Canal Pigi, Jonglei State, South Sudan
Donor: South Sudan Humanitarian Fund (SSHF) / OCHA
