After 14 years of war, Syria is still grappling with one of the world’s longest-running humanitarian crises. More than 16.5 million people are in need of urgent humanitarian aid – the majority of whom are women and children. Since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in December 2024, around 5.5 million Syrians have remained internally displaced within their own country. According to UN figures, as many as 60 per cent of the population are facing food insecurity, and over 90 per cent of Syrians are living below the poverty line.
