András Derzsi-Horváthback

András Derzsi-Horváth is a project manager at the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) in Berlin. He works on projects related to humanitarian action and peace & security, with a focus on governance, financing, and non-Western actors. In addition to advising humanitarian organizations, András investigates security assistance and armed non-state actors in Iraq and Syria. He is currently an international fellow in the Brown Humanitarian Innovation Initiative.

András has worked as a delegate for the International Committee of the Red Cross in Iraq, as an editor for the International Relations and Security Network, and as an independent consultant for the Global Debate and Public Policy Challenge. During his studies, he volunteered for the Association of Diplomacy in Practice, a student association at Corvinus University of Budapest. He also interned at the Middle East desk of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

András holds a master’s degree in public policy from the Central European University in Budapest. He was given the university’s Academic Pro-Rector’s Excellence Award for achieving the highest GPA in 2011. He also holds a joint master’s degree in international relations and economics as well as a bachelor’s degree in oriental languages and cultures, all from Hungarian state universities. His academic work has covered a wide range of topics, such as energy policy, conflict research, linguistics, and social network analysis. He has received stipends from the Hungarian Scholarship Board, the Central European University, and the European Commission. He has conducted research and studied in China, Kuwait, and Russia.
