houses and institutions renovated

Broken bridges, damaged or overflowing dams and huge amounts of rainwater led to massive losses in many towns in south-western Poland. The gigantic scale of the damage means that help is still needed a long time after the water subsided. What did the Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH) do during the year after the flood and what are we still doing?

PAH’S ASSISTANCE IN A NUTSHELL

Since September 2024, we have provided aid to nearly 30,000 people in 101 locations! In the first few months, we focused on providing the most necessary items, but our help has developed into long-term support, covering the reconstruction and renovation of private houses and public institutions, psychological assistance and extensive support for children.

Check out how much we have done together! Download a report on our activities after the flood.

Our aid reached 101 villages in the Opole, Lower Silesia and Silesia provinces.

COST OF PAH’s ACTIVITIES

Thanks to our donors and partners, a total of more than PLN 18 million was raised to help the flood victims!

These funds have enabled us to implement aid programmes that have supported not only individuals but also public institutions: schools and day centres, community centres, libraries, voluntary fire brigades, Rural Housewives’ Circles and other establishments and organisations.

A Year After the Flood – Are There More Disasters Ahead?

What lessons have we learned from the flood, and in the face of climate change, do we need to prepare for more frequent extreme weather events? Join us on our discussion on Tuesday, September 16, at 6:00 pm in Bar Studio!

The meeting will take place at Bar Studio in the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw. We will begin with a presentation of the report “365 Days. Report On PAH’s Activities After the Flood in Poland”, which summarizes PAH’s work in the flood-affected areas over the past year.

Afterwards, we will move on to a discussion with:

  • Prof. Szymon Malinowski – Earth sciences professor, founder and editor of Naukaoklimacie.pl,
  • Dominika Lasota – activist from the Wschód initiative and climate justice campaigner,
  • Katarzyna Pietrzak – PAH coordinator for flood-affected areas.

The discussion will be moderated by Paulina Górska, eco-educator and journalist, host of the podcast “Lepszy Klimat” (A Better Climate). The discussion will be held in Polish.

We will talk about the lessons we can draw from last year’s flood, the impact of climate change on the scale of the disaster, and what we, as a civil society, can do to better prepare for similar events.

Water mark. One year after the flood - exhibition

From September 5 to October 5, you can visit our photo exhibition “Water Mark.  One Year After the Flood” free of charge at Plac Centralny in Warsaw. The exhibition is our way of thanking our Donors, Partners, and everyone who has supported us — for their commitment and solidarity with those affected by the flood!

The exhibition features photographs by Aleksander Małachowski (@hashtagalek) and images from PAH’s archives taken by our colleague Alicja Ryś. They show the places hit by the flood as well as the people who received PAH’s support.

If you can’t make it to Warsaw — no worries! The exhibition will also be available in digital form on our HOME (DOM) platform.
